THE PETERSHAM

The Petersham is a privately owned 4-star hotel overlooking the River Thames and surrounding Petersham Meadows in Richmond, Surrey. Built in 1865, the hotel is rich in history yet progressive in approach, offering first-class hospitality and award-winning dining.

The hotel wanted to keep their well established logo and core brand colour palette, but evolve the brand with the addition of a new, more contemporary typeface and more dynamic and consistent creative on their website, branded literature and marketing materials. The new visuals had to reflect the Victorian splendour of the hotel and countryside location whilst retaining a modern and high-end aesthetic.

The new brand visual style took inspiration from the magnificent views from the hotel and the ornate decor found within. Utilising the strong brand photography and creating an framed image which serves as the focal point, the frame edging uses botanical themes to reflect the countryside surroundings. The botanicals change in style to suit the intended use, allowing flexibility within the brand to best meet the needs of the varying target markets.

The Website

RESPONSIVE WEBSITE DESIGN

The previous website needed to be re-structured for increased ease of use, with refreshed visuals in-line with the updated brand identity. The new site design simplified the branded header bar and used striking photography of the hotel as a focal point. Research showed the two main reasons customers visited the website were to make a table reservation or to book a room. Quick access buttons situated top right simplified this process, with the full menu accessible top left via a sleek horizontal expansion. Smooth carousel gallery transitions and simple highlight rollovers added a sophisticated touch of movement to the pages without being visually distracting.

The layout of the new site is clearly structured in a three column grid offering customers a familiarity of naviagation. Section links use photographic and text descriptions, with care given to accessible font sizes and high contrast colour choices. The overall aesthetic of the pages is kept clean and bright, reflecting the classic yet modern ambience of the hotel.

Menus

SEASONAL A4 & A5 MENUS

The Petersham's Nightingales restaurant offers award-wining dining with an outstanding view of the river and surrounding meadows. The  menus are updated regularly with seasonal produce, so the design and layout needed to be able to accommodate this and allow for flexibility in altering the amount of content in an efficient and cost effective manner. The simple and elegant design selected uses the gold frame device from the updated brand style along with well considered typography and is printed in-house on high quality paper stock. Seasonal variations of the menu are marked by additional graphic elements that tie in with the other promotional marketing material.
